Heidi has studied the work of Eunice D. Ingham, developer of the science of reflexology, and can include reflexology in her sessions, depending on client preference.  Nerve reflexes found in the foot correspond to specific areas throughout the body, as noted in the chart above.  Any stagnation within the body will result in a corresponding tenderness in that area of the foot, due to formation of crystals from waste product that accumulates in the foot.  It is believed that these crystalline waste products interfere with nerve and blood supplies.  When deep pressure is applied directly over the tender place for 1-2 minutes, the reflex is stimulated, and congestion is broken up.  Circulation is accelerated and the vitality of the body is increased, allowing it the strength to overcome toxins in the system. The area should be worked until no tenderness remains, although this may take more than one session.

The amount of tenderness in the area is correlated with the amount of congestion and perhaps the size of the crystals.  By systematically compressing the feet and finding where there is tenderness, Heidi can obtain information as to where stagnation lies in the body.  The same reflexes exist in the hands, but it is more difficult to locate tenderness in the hands as it is generally worked out during normal use of the hands.

One of the many health benefits of reflexology that have been reported is a reduction of PMS symptoms.  One study found a 46% reduction in PMS symptoms when women rubbed the appropriate points on their feet, and Heidi can show her female clients how to do this.
